What Is a Facebook Page?
A Facebook page is a separate page that’s linked to a personal profile. A page is designed for commercial intent and serves as a place to promote your business.
Because they’re designed with commercial intent in mind, a business page has features that a personal profile doesn’t have access to, including:
⦁ Post, audience & demographic analytics
⦁ Paid advertising features
⦁ Post scheduling (both backdating and scheduling in the future)
⦁ Unlimited number of fans (personal profiles have a 5,000 friends limit)
⦁ And more.
It’s best to take advantage of as many of these features as possible to harness the power of Facebook pages.
Step 1: Sign up
If you’ve already got a personal Facebook profile, then head over to: https://www.facebook.com/pages/create to create your first Facebook page.
You will be presented with a ‘create a page’ screen. Select the ‘Business or Brand’ option by clicking ‘Get Started’ underneath.
From there, you can choose your page name, the category your business fits into, and some extra business information such as address and phone number.
Once your information has been filled out accurately, click ‘continue’ to create your page.
Step 2: Add a Profile Picture & Cover Photo
Now that your page has been created, it’s time to add some images. Make sure that the images you use are consistent with your brand and are clearly identifiable.
You can use something as simple as your logo for your profile picture. Your profile picture will be visible when your business page appears in search results on Facebook. It will also appear when you create posts or respond to comments.

Images will be cropped to a circle. Make sure you don’t have any important information on the edges of your photo as it may get cut off.
Your Facebook cover image should again be consistent with your business’s branding and convey its personality. Look at your competitors and other relevant brands for ideas on what kind of cover image to use.

Images must be at least 400px wide and 150px tall, but for a better-quality image, we recommend a size of 720 x 315.
Step 3: Set Your Username
Your username will also act as your Facebook URL and will make it easier to direct people to your Facebook page in the future.
A username is limited to 50 characters and should be something that’s easy to type and even easier to remember.
We recommend setting this to your business name or, if taken, something very similar and recognisable.
To change your username, click ‘Create Page @username’ in the left menu to set up your custom username.
Once you’re done a popup will appear which will show your new page link. Take note of this link, you can add it to your website, email signature and any offline promotional material you may have such as business cards.
Step 4: Add Your Business Details
It’s important to fill out your business details before you start sending new followers to your page.
Facebook is generally one of the first places a visitor will go to get information about you or your business and is a great way to quickly serve this to them and begin forming a relationship.
For example, if a customer is trying to find out whether you’re open for business today but can’t find it on your page, they may click off and find a competitor that confirms that they’re open for business.
It may seem like a small detail, but business information can have a big impact on the decision process of a potential customer.
To fill out your business details, click ‘Edit page info’ in the top left menu. Make sure to accurately fill out all sections with as much detail and information as possible.
The sections you can fill out include:
⦁ Contact details
⦁ Business hours
You should also fill out the ‘Our Story’ section within your profile. This section is hidden and can tell the story about how your brand came to be or the values that your brand stands behind.
To see it, click ‘see more’ in the left-hand menu, then click ‘about’, and click on ‘Our story’ on the right-hand side.
Step 5: Create Your First Post
Before jumping the gun and inviting people to like your Facebook Business page, you should already have some valuable content waiting for them when they arrive.
You can create your own unique content, take your best content from your website or post content from other leaders in your industry.
The type of content you post on your business page needs to be valuable to your audience (which can be done by educating or entertaining them) so that you train them to engage with your content and revisit your page frequently.
Step 6: Publish Your Page and Invite Users
The final step to getting your business page setup is to set it live and invite people to like your new page.
Your Facebook business page is yet another way potential and current customers can now interact with your business – set it live by clicking the green ‘Publish Page’ button.
Now that your page is live, you’ll need to build an audience.
Some of the best ways to get new users to like your page include:
